I’d like to explain a few things about Cedar Rapids Area Practical Shooters, better known as C.R.A.P.S. throughout the United States in the shooting community of USPSA, United States Practical Shooting Association. Our club was organized in 1980. Currently, we have competitors coming from the surrounding Midwest area.

I will explain a few things in case you are not familiar with USPSA shooting:

  1. Eye and ear protection (muffs or plugs) are required on our range
  2. In regard to the type of handgun, any 9 mm center fire or larger
  3. A holster is required--the trigger housing must be covered
  4. If you shoot a revolver, speed loaders are helpful
  5. If you shoot a semi-auto, extra magazines are helpful
  6. Shooting belt or heavy/sturdy leather belt

100 rounds of ammo should get you through the matches

We shoot on the third Sunday of the month (rain, snow, or shine) from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. (April-November).  Match fees are $12 for all three matches and $1.00 for reshoots.  Our range includes a heated mobile home “clubhouse” where you can warm up between matches during the winter months or get out of the rain in summer.

Hope you can make it out to shoot or to watch (watching is free!)  And first-time shooters shoot free!  It’s great fun and really gets the adrenalin pumping!

Hope this gives you some insight into our club and USPSA.  If you have any questions (and you probably will) please give me a call at 319/364-7936 and I will be happy to explain it further.
